Hotel Esmeralda is a little gem tucked away in Atlixco. We stayed for a family wedding but would happily have stayed for longer. There was a lovely clean, heated pool with relaxed seating and a very pleasant outdoor area for dinner and breakfast. The food was authentic Mexican and delicious and the service was attentive without being obtrusive. We would highly recommend a stay here.

The best place to eat in Atlixco the flavors of the land is at @lucia_1950_cocinadepueblo del @manuel_rosas90. Not to be missed. On Sundays there is a flower market in the main square and on Saturdays you must go to the market to see the colors and splendor of regional agriculture. Atlixco is a colorful place, beautiful to visit any time of year. Sundays are the best for markets. The food is amazing if you step into the Mercados that can be found anywhere. Jugeria la Nueva has the best smoothies! Like in any place, be careful where you go and you should not have any problems with pit pockets.

Atlixco is not listed in many travel books but it's a nice, quaint town to visit. It's known to have the best view of the volcano but you will not see it if the sky is hazy. I was not lucky during my stay.

I stayed for 2 nights in January so it was the off season. Very quiet neighborhood, about 3Km to center, easy and affordable to zip around using Uber in Atlixco so not a problem. You can walk to the bus pretty quick also. Owners are very nice and breakfast is good! Property is beautiful and spacious- if you have kids this seems like a perfect spot.
