Small, laid-back town with many activities in and around and some good restaurants. I also enjoyed visiting nearby towns like Hermanus & Stanford. Highlights were Shark Cage Diving, Klein River Cheese Farm and the Elgin Valley Wine Farms. Some nice hiking options in the area as well & De Kelders is great for whale watching and walks along the ocean.

Gansbaai still feels like a real fishing town although there is a big centre with Spar as the main tenant.
There is a lot to do if you are someone that needs to stay active: walking trails, horse riding, wine tasting, and bicycle routes. You can go shark diving or watch the seals at Dyer Island.
You can walk all the way from Kleinbaai to Franskraal or just relax on the beach.
You can play in the lagoon or swim in the sea. Never a dull moment.

There doesn’t seem like much to do this time of year unless you have reliable transportation. I guess it would be an ok home base but would still be a drive to anything. Beach access is almost impossible. If you want quiet with incredible views, this is your town. We did eat at a great restaurant but I think there are only a few places in town. It was tough to find a place for a pre dinner drink.
Helen is such a gracious host. We stayed at Wave Dancer during a 17 day trip to South Africa and she was in constant communication with us about our travels and arrivals. She gave us recommendations for things to do in the area and made a reservation for us at a local restaurant to ensure we had a nice place to eat dinner during our stay. Her house is beautiful and very clean with some of the most spectacular ocean views I have ever seen from a home. I would highly recommend a stay here if you’re traveling to Gansbaai.
We loved everything about our stay at Whale Sea Cottage. The house is beautiful, with three bathrooms for four bedrooms, which was a lovely treat. We had beautiful evening views and a lovely stroll down by the sea. The hosts also left a lovely birthday treat.
The swimming pool area / front patio is so wonderful, we spent 90% of our time out there. Janeen was also super friendly and easy to communicate with through out our stay. Would highly recommend this venue to anyone visiting Gansbaai.
A cozy place with a wonderful host! It was a big pleasure talking to Johannes! He gave us lots of advise and useful information on surrounding area and walked us to the best beach in Gansbaai and shared a glass of Amarulo during a nice conversation in the evening! Special thanks for a huge discount on Shark Cage Diving tour!
In the morning we had a very lovely breakfast and left the property with the most positive mood possible!
Thank you, Johannes! We'll definitely come back to your B&B!
Amazing Grace has that little something extra that you won't find at another B&B in Gansbaai.
Besides the great view of the bay while having breakfast or the tranquil atmosphere or soothing energy it expels. It has Linda and Deon💜
Linda and Deon were phenomenal hosts. Warm, friendly and considered.
We felt so at home, like we were visiting with family but still having our privacy when needed.
We've already recommend staying here to family and friends.
We will be back soon😀
A very nice guesthouse that makes you feel at home abroad. Located directly on the cliff with an amazing view of the ocean and the whales 🐋. Mrs. Wallce took real good care of all our needs and treated us like family, breakfasts where great, she organized our dinners and got us tables at the best restaurants in town , cared for our transportation, etc.
We had a great time ,even the rain didn't ruin our holiday.
The apartment was very good value, although basic had everything that was needed. Needed to keep a window open as condensation was a problem but the bed was comfortable, the shower was hot, walkable distance from the cliff path. Great cafes nearby especially Gansbaai Bakery. Great service food ,really quirky.Chantal and Francois were really helpful and offered loads of advice about local area.
This house feels like holiday! Everything is neat, clean and thoughtfully planned for your comfort. The kitchen is well-equipped. The glassed in braai patio lets you enjoy the view while relaxing and braaiing even in bad weather. There were ample heaters and warm blankets on our bed. The host was most welcoming, friendly and responsive.
If you are looking for a holiday destination that is peaceful and without the busy of other destinations then Gaansbaai is for u.
McLaren self catering is the place for u to stay with family, has everything u require to keep yourself fed and accommodated while on holiday.
Thank you Leigh
The Hotel is having exceptional facilities-with great sea-facing luxury rooms with picturesque ocean views. The Hotel staff was extremely friendly, more welcoming and helpful. They went to an extra mile to offer the best service money can buy.
Breakfast was good. The view exceptional and the room had most things we needed as it was self catering. Eskom was a bit of a problem but we were given a light. Maybe a couple of candles and matches in the room?
Very cute place to stay and enjoy Gansbaai. Gina & Ottl are very welcoming hosts. Very intimate to sit around they‘re dining room table for breakfast and enjoy the yummie bfast.
For the price, this is a really good spot. Friendly reception, peaceful, clean, DSTV and even electric blankets for the cold winter nights. Great spot to stay in Gansbaai.
It was self catering. The hosts took us to the nature reserve and we had breakfast on the rocks with the most amazing views. Gansbaai is so peaceful and tranquil.
Service was exceptional. Staff was friendly. The bed I slept in made me feel like I'm on cloud 9. The breakfast was delicious. And they didn't have cheap coffee!!!
