FAQs about hotels in Cape Town

Cool, Colourful Cape

Between mountains and beaches, the 2nd largest city in South Africa mixes history, resilient modernity, and a typical laidback African character. From the top of Table Mountain to the colourful Bo Kaap quarter, and from the Victoria & Albert Waterfront to the modern business district, Cape Town blends multicultural influences and beautiful nature.

Known as Kaapstad in Afrikaans, its sunny weather and mild temperatures make it a perfect place to enjoy the large number of beaches that surround it. From Sunset Beach to Hout Bay, and from Simon’s Town to Gordon Bay, this city offers a variety that suits all tastes. Whale and dolphin watching is a popular activity in False Bay.

Located on the Cape of Good Hope, the city was founded in 1652 by a Dutch trading company as a way-station for ships travelling to the East Indies. With the settling process, all sorts of foreign plants were introduced, including the grapes in the famous Cape Winelands District, just outside Cape Town.

Cape Town’s history does have some darker periods, and some of its memorable places from this time deserve to be visited: Robben Island jail, the City Hall from which Nelson Mandela gave his first public speech, and the statues of the 4 South African Nobel Peace Prize winners on the V&A Waterfront.

After spending eight years abroad, I recently had the opportunity to return to Cape Town, and it was nothing short of magnificent. The city retains all the enchanting charm that I fondly remembered, making my homecoming even more special. Cape Town has a unique way of welcoming you back; it's like reuniting with an old friend. I spent my days revisiting beloved spots and reacquainting myself with the sights, sounds, and flavors that I had missed. Each moment felt like reliving cherished memories, and every experience reminded me why I had fallen in love with this city in the first place. One of the highlights of my trip was undoubtedly the stunning beaches. Whether you're a fan of sunbathing, surfing, or simply enjoying a scenic walk along the coast, Cape Town’s beaches offer pristine sands and crystal-clear waters that should not be missed. They are perfect for anyone looking to relax and take in the breathtaking beauty of the ocean. I highly recommend Cape Town to anyone considering a visit or even a return trip. The city’s vibrant atmosphere and picturesque landscapes are sure to make an impression on you, just as they did on me. Whether you’re exploring for the first time or coming back after years away, Cape Town welcomes you with open arms and endless possibilities. Don't miss out on experiencing this remarkable city and all it has to offer.

Lots to see and do: trip to Robben Island, V & A Waterfront and the seals, Table Mountain, Trip to wineries. The Citybus is very cheap, though you need to pre-load a card available from some pharmacies and other outlets. The cable-car up Table Mountain is very weather dependant. We went to the cable-car on a lovely clear day but the cable-car was closed due to wind. We booked in advance for a few days later. The cable-car was working but we went into a cloud/rain and saw nothing! Thought 3rd time lucky and on a very sunny day we tried again. Closed due to wind, but our ticket money was refunded. There are security guards everywhere in town which helps to make you feel safe, but it's sensible not to have expensive watches or jewellery visible.

Lots to see and do, interesting museums, design in the waterside area was of a very high standard. Loved Table Mountain, the vegetation at the top was unexpectedly interesting....and would have visited the beaches if I had had more time. Enjoyed visiting the winelands; I have done this in other countries - this trip was particularly well-organised. The map I had missed out a lot of roads so some places were further than anticipated; signposting could be erratic. Hiring a car would have been a benefit but I do not like driving so used buses.

The Mojo hotel is conveniently located in Sea Point, which is a great area to have your base in if you are visiting Cape Town, as it is close to the CBD, as well as popular Clifton and Camps Bay just a short Uber ride away. Rooms on the terrace have all the basic necessities and are very clean, good value for money if you are traveling alone. Wi-Fi was working most of the time. As it is located on top of the Mojo market, there is always great food available, as well as they have live music every day.

The location was very convenient - right in the heart of City Bowl and walking distance to the waterfront. The hotel is really cute and funky. The rooms were clean and comfortable and functional but pretty sparse. This is not luxury hotel! However, the very cool rooftop bar/patio made up for it. It has a great vibe. The restaurant downstairs was really good and the staff were helpful and friendly. I would stay there again for sure. It's a little gem.
